How To Make Nigerian Suya With Oven

Nigerian Suya is a spicy, tasty, roasted meat snack. It is a popular street food, originated from the northern part of Nigeria and popular amongst everyone.

It is similar to kilishi and beef kebabs and it can be made with different kinds and parts of meats, like chicken, beef, turkey, gizzards, cow liver and kidney. So experiment with any meat of your choice.

Nigerian Suya is traditionally made by roasting spiced meat over red-hot charcoal but it can also be made with a simple griller or oven with grill compartment.

Below is a well detailed and easy recipe on how to make Nigerian Suya with oven.

Nigerian Suya Ingredients:
• 1kg beef (chicken)
• 5 tablespoonful suya spice
• 2 tablespoons groundnut oil
• 2 medium tomato (sliced)
• 1 small onion (sliced)
• 1 seasoning cube or salt to taste

What You Need:
• Wooden or metal skewers
• Cooking brush

How To Make Nigerian Suya With Oven:
• If you're using metal skewers, grease them with oil and set aside. Or soak the wooden skewers in warm water for at least 1 hour before use.

Tip: This will prevent the wood from splitting and also keeps it from getting overly burnt while grilling the Nigerian Suya.

• Now, cut the beef or chicken into thin fillets and carefully thread the meat pieces on the skewers. Make sure the meat is not longer than the skewer.

• In a small bowl, add the oil and a little salt or crushed seasoning cube and mix together. Then dip the brush into the oil, and gently brush the skewered Suya meat with it.

• Next, pour the Suya spice in a tray, and evenly rub the skewered meat on it, make sure that it covers all part of the meat.

• Now, transfer all the spiced Suya meat onto another tray and cover with a foil paper or plastic film then leave in a cool place to marinate for at least 1 hour.

• Like 10 minutes before the marinate time is over, preheat the oven grill at 180º C (350 ºF) but if your grill has no heat setting, just preheat it to medium for 10 minutes.

• Grease the grill rack or baking sheet, by brushing some oil on it. This helps to prevent the Suya from sticking to the pan while grilling.

• Then, place the marinated Suya meat onto the grill rack. Grill the underside for 15 minutes, then brush a little oil mix on it and continue grilling for the next 10 minutes.

• Flip the underside over and repeat the process for the top side until done. That's it, your Nigerian Suya is ready.

• Remove the Suya and slice into small pieces or leave it on the skewer and serve with sliced tomatoes and onions or any vegetable of your choice.
